Catalog Description:
Combination Lecture and Lab. This course explores the future of photography, the revolution of digital imaging and the advances in technology which have made it possible. Covering a brief history of the theories and models that are the mechanics of digital imaging. The digital darkroom process is the core of the class. Lab assignments are designed to illustrate concepts covered in the lecture. This will include digital procedures and techniques for producing images for printed publications, web pages, and digital presentations.

Course Objectives:
Provide students with the ability to produce high quality digital images that meet the specific needs and preparation requirements for various applications in the field of commercial and artistic photography. The course will cover the concepts and mechanics of digital image making from pre-conceptualization of the image, recording the image, digital processing, retouching and aesthetic issues to final output. Students will learn how to use a digital camera with available light and studio lighting. Also digitizing traditional photography for retouching, color correcting and incorporating into artwork for digital output, presentation and web page publication. Assignments will include producing work to illustrate applications in the field of commercial and artistic digital photography.

Digital camera with minimum sensor grid of 1.2 megapixels; 1250x960 or above.
Several (3-5) Iomega Zip disks 100mb (IBM formatted)
Paper: (minimum) one package of 15 sheets Photo quality inkjet paper
Frames: (1) for final exhibition.
